The goal of Anger Management is to reduce both your emotional feelings and the physiological arousal that anger causes. You can't get rid of, or avoid, the things or the people that enrage you, nor can you change them, but you can learn to control your reactions. We use the ANDERSON & ANDERSON CURRICULUM. Developed by George Anderson, which is the most effective and most widely recognized curriculum in the world.

Definitions

Is you anger out of control?

  • If you find yourself getting angry at everything that inconveniences you, or gets in the way of what you want to be doing.
  • If it consumes you long after the event has passed.
  • If you find yourself doing self destructive things to cope with your angry feelings.
  • If it leads you to act out aggressively or violently as in yelling, hitting shoving or plotting revenge.

Initial Personal Assessment

TIPS TO CONTROL YOUR ANGER
32 ideas you can use today.

Today's children and teens face even greater pressures than those of our past. Most have witness murders and all kinds of violence on television, video games, and in the music on our radio and C/D. Some are involved in violent or illegal gang activity, and or come from broken homes where domestic violence and substance abuse. We must give these children skills to control there self. By the time they start going through puberty, their entire existence may seem out of their control, and they may grow increasingly enraged, acting out their anger in antisocial ways that require adolescent anger management

Many things can make children angry, and parent often find dealing with angry children to be the most difficult part the parenting job, but let me emphasize to you that anger is a normal, healthy emotion. We all experience anger; it is unavoidable.  If you have a younger child who is displaying violent or destructive behavior, think of it as a warning sign. First of all, be very aware of violence in younger children, because kids who are five, six and seven who use violence to get their way have an extraordinarily high rate of being violent as teens and young adults.  Violent behavior at this age would include hitting other kids, biting, and kicking on a consistent basis to get what they want.

Our goal is not to repress or destroy angry feelings in children, but rather to accept the feelings and to help channel and direct them to constructive ends. With Anger in children we need to have some ideas about what may have triggered an outburst. Anger may be a defense to avoid painful feelings; sadness and depression, frustration, it may be associated with failure, embarrassment, low self-esteem, and feelings of isolation; or it may be related to anxiety about situations over which the child has no control.

We help children understand and label what is behind there anger, and learn way to showing children acceptable ways of expressing their feelings.
